Bridesmaid

"The day that the wedding party went dress shopping, I became violently ill and had to go to the hospital," writes Baltimore bridesmaid Michelle. "They [picked] the dresses without me. This is what we ended up with." But although these purple people-eaters look bad from the front, Michelle assures us that the back of the iridescent taffeta gowns were just as bad: "The back cut [was] out with a big bow!" She says she was horrified then, and assures us, "I am horrified now." As for the dress? Michelle says, "That dress cost me $150 (maybe more) and it ended up in a ball in the back of my closet."

I wore this dress twice...once in dark green for my sister and once in dark blue for a friend. The pay-off was that I caught both bouqets and I met my hubby at the second wedding. I admit, though, my bridesmaid dresses were much better. They were similar but only tea length and peach in color.

OMIGOSH....I wore the same dress.

The design of the top is hideous and nobody should wear that color in that fabric unless they are a size 6 or less.

It is not the dress. it is the fact that the women wearing wearing the dresses are overweight, and the dresses are completely unflattering.

I wore this god awful dress in the same color at a wedding myself. Not only did it have a big bow on the butt but the cut out that everyone is referring to was in the shape of a heart!!! And to make matters worse the bride wanted everyones hair UP so they could all see the back!! Our ceramoney ran late and I remember looking at the limo with the next bride and bridesmaids thinking they must be laughing their heads off. I was embarrased.

OMG...I had this dress too!!!

Misty | May 1, 2007 3:13:22 PM

I wore this dress to my junior prom in teal!!

Even for the early nineties, this styles would have looked a little better if the fabric was rich and had substance. You cannot get any dress to look good if you use the cheapest taffeta at Hancocks, no slips and a top it off with a horrific ironing job. This style does not flatter most figures, but on tiny girls with small curves it is very flattering, provided it is well made with expensive lined satin or shantung silk.

this dress is very bad indeed, i went to a wedding in the late 80's where the maids wore this little number in battleship grey taffeta ~ frightening to say the least. they made great pilgrim costumes the following halloween!

I had this dress for my bridesmaids in irredescent coral in '92. The bow was in the back at the top, but was not large. Thanks ladies for hanging in there....love ya all!

Is it just me, or did someone think those things would do double duty as Renaissance fair tents?

Errin | Apr 19, 2007 10:40:50 PM

this was just mean. she must not have liked you very much

My bridesmaids wore this dress in mauve! Back cut out, big bow in the back. Yep! Same dress. Looking back now, I need to apologize to my friends for doing that to them. They were such troopers! Love ya buddies!

JIll | Apr 19, 2007 1:39:36 AM

Now these dresses are hideous!! These are funny! You know your butt was stylin and profiling these dresses in the 80s. These kinds of dresses are kind of "expected" on these types of contests.

these were my bridesmaid dresses in '92! mine were forest green taffeta. they even featured the horrible, huge bow in back!

jules | Apr 18, 2007 9:55:25 PM

My sister and I wore this exact dress to our sisters wedding !!!! Horrific and not flattering-we even had matching bows for our hair!!

They can almost pose as Barney the Dino for a children's party.

Kellee | Apr 18, 2007 6:02:38 PM

I wore this in fushia but ours not only had the bow across the back.... it had one on the hip and I think I remember them on the sleeves as well... and was gathered in 3 places at the front bottom... our were made by a dress maker and a bunch or them fell apart as the girls danced!

Brenda | Apr 18, 2007 11:26:30 AM

This looks so familiar -- my wedding featured the same dress, only in bright red satin. It was 1986 and this was the 'simplest' dress I could find.

michele | Apr 17, 2007 1:09:08 AM

just another typical 80s bridesmaids dress. hideous NOW, but for the time ...that was the look to go with.

Amanda | Apr 16, 2007 3:01:53 PM

Maybe you became violently ill because you knew in your subconcious you'd wind up in something this awful?!
