Pretty (Unhappy) in Pink

April 19, 2007

Bridesmaid

"I love my sister-in-law but what was she thinking, putting a redheaded high school girl in a bright fuchsia dress?!?" laments Karen, a recovering bridesmaid from Muskego, Wisconsin. "The dyed matching shoes also add that special touch." As if the loud color weren't enough, Karen says, the dress was also suffering from a severe bow overdose. "It had big poufy sleeves with little bows.  If that wasn't enough, there was a huge bow on the waist in the back. My sister-in-law thought I could wear the dress to prom one day. HA!" Ever the trouper, Karen found a silver lining on that pink cloud: "At least the flowers were pretty."

Who on earth thinks this style of dress, no matter what the color, still looks good enough that they would want anyone to wear the dress? Really? Let's just just bury this ugly thing and move on to something simple and stylish.

I wore the same dress and shoes in my college roommates wedding. Think it was a harbinger of their divorce a year later?

Perhaps you could have clicked your heels together 3 times and said "There's no place like home" ?

Yup, I wore that exact dress in my Aunt and Uncles wedding around 1991 or 1993...same color and everything. I was a chubby 11 yr old and it was not so cute!
Im glad some of you share the pain!

I wore the same dress as a Jr. Bridesmaid about 1993.

Oh it was bad. The worst was that we had a "bows" that we had to wear in our hair that matched the dress.

I wore this dress in the mid '80's when my sister got married. They were cheap. But they made you look big.

Hey, look on the bright side: If you ever want to spend some time in the Philippines, you're all set!

Now thats hideous!

Susan | Apr 20, 2007 3:30:24 AM

Oh dear. This dress seems bent on making a girl look her widest. I'm sure the red hair really topped off the look!

dznr | Apr 19, 2007 5:04:27 PM

Hideous!

Laurie | Apr 19, 2007 2:32:19 PM

Oh my God. My sister-in-law chose almost this same dress, but in teal, complete with matching shoes. It was hideous. I'll never forget - my aunt called me up and said that the dresses were beautiful and "not traditional bridesmaids dresses." When I got it and saw the satin, bow-on-the-butt and all, I wondered what she could possibly have been talking about. Also, I was the only bridesmaid with a chest. But I sucked it up for my brother's sake.

This dress looks like something from 1985. It makes her look frumpy. Why do all brides lose all sense of style once their big day approaches?!
